GUIDE · BRAZIL FEEDHow to watch Globoplay from abroad (TV Globo World Cup coverage, in Portuguese).
Short answer: install a VPN, connect to a Brazil server, open Globoplay, sign in to your Globo account and play. Globoplay carries TV Globo's live World Cup signal, the polished Brazilian broadcast with full studio production. It is geo-locked to Brazil, but a VPN unlocks it in about five minutes. If you want every one of the 104 matches free with no account, CazéTV (below) is the companion.
Grupo Globo holds Brazil's primary television rights to the 2026 World Cup. TV Globo carries the marquee fixtures on open broadcast, and Globoplay streams Globo's live signal plus on-demand replays. For millions of Brazilians, Globo's coverage is the World Cup: the commentary, the studio panel and the theme music are all part of the ritual.
Globoplay has a free, ad-supported tier that includes the live open-Globo simulcast, and premium tiers that add the SporTV channels and the full sports package. Either way you need a Brazilian account, and the stream checks where you are.
That is the catch for the diaspora. Open Globoplay from London, Lisbon, Miami or Tokyo and you hit "conteúdo indisponível na sua região." Your own Globoplay subscription, that you may well be paying for, locked because of your location. A VPN to a São Paulo server puts you back on the Brazilian feed.
Why Globoplay is geo-blocked outside Brazil
Globo's World Cup licence is Brazil-only. FIFA sells the rights country by country, so Globoplay checks your IP address when a stream starts: a Brazilian IP gets in, anything else is blocked. It is the same border logic that blocks BBC iPlayer outside the UK. Your paid account does not override it, the geo-check is purely about which country your connection appears to be in.
Step-by-step: Globoplay outside Brazil
- Install a VPN on your device. Phone, laptop, tablet or smart TV all work. The one I recommend is linked below.
- Connect to a Brazil server. Brazil or São Paulo in the app. Wait for the connection to confirm.
- Open Globoplay at globoplay.globo.com or in the Globoplay app.
- Sign in to your Globo account. The free tier covers the open-Globo live signal; premium adds the SporTV channels.
- Press play on the live match. The same Globo broadcast a viewer in São Paulo is watching, commentary and all.
Is it legal to watch Globoplay with a VPN from outside Brazil?
VPNs are legal in nearly every country (a small number restrict them, so check your local rules). A Brazilian abroad reaching their own Globoplay account is the textbook expat use case. It may breach Globoplay's terms in theory, but no broadcaster has ever pursued an individual viewer for watching their own national feed while travelling.
This guide is for Brazilians abroad, Portuguese speakers, and anyone who prefers Globo's production to a US or paywalled feed.
Why Brazilians abroad reach for Globoplay
CazéTV is free and carries all 104, so why VPN into Globoplay at all? Three reasons:
- The Globo production. Decades of World Cup pedigree, the famous commentary teams, the studio analysis. For a lot of Brazilians it simply is not the World Cup without it.
- You already pay for it. If you have a Globoplay subscription, a VPN just lets you use the thing you are already buying while you are abroad. Nothing extra to sign up for.
- SporTV's extra matches. On premium, Globoplay adds the SporTV channels, which carry fixtures and angles the open signal does not.
Troubleshooting
Globoplay still shows a region error with my VPN on
Disconnect, switch to a different Brazil server, reconnect, and clear Globoplay cookies. A São Paulo server is usually the most reliable. If your account region is set outside Brazil, sign out and back in while connected.
It asks for a Brazilian CPF or payment method
The free tier and the open-Globo live signal generally play with a basic Globo account. Premium signups can ask for a Brazilian payment method, which is why many fans abroad keep an existing subscription and simply VPN in to use it.
I'm on a smart TV
Cast from a phone or laptop that has the VPN running, or install the VPN on your router so the whole home network shows a Brazilian IP.
If you can't or don't want to use a VPN
If you do not have a Globoplay account, the free route to all 104 matches is CazéTV on YouTube, also a Brazil VPN unlock, in Portuguese. The UK's BBC iPlayer carries all 104 free in English. See the full country list for what is free where you are.
